There are numerous body-sculpting and contouring solutions available today that help patients get rid of stubborn fat pockets and attain a better body shape. One of the most advanced of these solutions is ultrasound-assisted liposuction.
Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction
Ultrasound-assisted liposuction, or UAL, uses high-frequency sound waves to break down and liquefy fat deposits in the body. This process is particularly successful in removing difficult pockets of fat from regions such as the calves, cheeks, chin, knees, neck, and ankles.
UAL is ideal for patients who are in overall good health and wish to attain a more contoured body shape. It should be noted that it is not a weight-loss solution or a cure for obesity.
An Overview of the Procedure
At the start of the UAL treatment, the treatment areas will be injected with tumescent fluid. The injection of the tumescent fluid is a common step in most liposuction processes. The fluid is a combination of saline, local anesthetic, and epinephrine. It helps to numb the region, lower the amount of blood loss experienced, and cause the fat cells to swell, making removal easier.
The targeted stubborn fat is then melted using ultrasound waves, which are applied using a thin tube known as a cannula. The cannula vibrates with the ultrasonic sound that passes through it. When the fat cells come in contact with the cannula, they liquefy rapidly. Medical suction is used to vacuum the liquified cells through the cannula, removing them from the body.
Advantages of Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction
There are numerous advantages to using ultrasound liposuction. One of the most significant of them is removal of hard-to-reach pockets of fat and dense deposits. The cannula offers freedom and flexibility to use this procedure for different kinds of fat deposits and can reach a number of places in the body.
Another major benefit of UAL liposuction is that because the fat is liquefied, removal of fat is much easier than with traditional liposuction. This means that less damage is caused to the surrounding tissues during removal, so less swelling and bruising result from the procedure. The recovery process is easier overall.
The precision and gentler nature of the ultrasound procedure also offers results that are more natural-looking than those of traditional liposuction.
